From Orlando to McKinney: A Tale of Artistic Collaboration

Many years ago, in 2010, when Twitter was a great place to connect with artists worldwide, I was tweeting with David Sandum. When he asked me to send a small work of art that would be used towards purchasing new books for the Moss Library in Norway I didn’t hesitate. The concept made fireworks go off in my head. I had to talk to David about doing this project in the US, more specifically in Orlando, Florida, where I was located. As it turned out, I wasn’t alone; Nat George from California had reached out, too. Before we knew it, we had formed a board with David, and the Twitter Art Exhibit evolved. Nat and I eventually moved on from being on the board, and more people continued to join forces to move forward with what is now the Postcard Art Exhibit.

I cannot express in words the feeling of joy it is to receive and open envelopes of art from all over the world.

The works are remarkable. The artists participating are so generous. It is my great pleasure to get to know our Postcard artists online, follow their art journey, and have the opportunity for sharing and collecting their art. In 2014, at City Arts in Orlando, Florida, our board, David, Nat, and I were elated to meet artists; several even flew in from other parts of the US and Canada. The exhibit in Orlando had 700 cards from artists in 40 countries.

Now, in 2024, the art cards will start flowing in from all over the world to the McKinney Cotton Mill, where Millhouse is located in Texas.

I love art and artists, and once again, being the curator for this incredible event is such an honor and pleasure. I am truly proud to show off these art pieces to our community here in Dallas Fort Worth.

Everyone at Millhouse is excited to have this event. Millhouse Foundation supports our art community, providing artists with increased visibility and sales, helping artists attract new customers, and providing creative collaboration. Millhouse Foundation has Gallery exhibits, Public Art, and social media promotions. All of us who support and participate in Millhouse programming are elated to have it as the chosen recipient of funding. The community of McKinney is excited for the world of art to be here and truly cannot wait for this event. The most cards to ever arrive is 1,000, since Texas is known for everything being bigger in Texas let’s try to break that record number!
